Astro Alloys offers a wide variety of masking materials from Dewal masking tapes, Praxair's Machbloc TM HVOF Compound, (H.V.M.C.)High Velocity Masking Compound and Tapes.
DeWAL Industries, a leading manufacturer of quality tapes and films since 1974, produces a full like of high performance pressure sensitive tapes for industrial use. DeWAL tapes combine the strength, durability, and versatility of the DeWAL family of PTFE, UHMW-PE, FEP, polymide, glass fiber silicone rubber, aluminum foil, and polyester film substrates with proprietary formulations of silicone, acrylic, or rubber-based temperature and chemical resistance adhesive systems. The result produces exceptional pressure sensitive tape products for industry′s most demanding applications.

Thermal Spray Masking tapes resist temperature and abrasion and provide protection from over-spray and splash. This complete line of silicone rubber, fiberglass, aluminum foil and composite tape laminates satisfy the demanding requirements of metal or ceramic plasma, arc spraying, HVOF (high velocity oxy-fuel), and grit-blasting applications.

Machbloc TM
Machbloc TM is a heat resistant, silicone-based masking compound that's specially designed to withstand the rigors of HVOF spraying and grit blasting. It looks and feels like molding clay, so it can conform to almost any shape part. Screw and bolt holes, complex contours, grooves, even parts which are currently impossible to fixture, can now be easily and quickly masked. And, since Machbloc TM is so cost-efficient, small runs or one-of-a-kind parts can now be masked and processed economically. Machbloc TM is revolutionizing the masking process because it allows users to get full advantage out of HVOF coating technology. Without time-robbing delays to fabricate metal masking fixtures. Without quality breakdowns from using ineffective, pressure-sensitive tapes. After Molding and curing, Machbloc TM has the consistency of rubber, yet it's removed easily and cleanly from parts after spraying. Machbloc TM is incredibly easy to use. Just hand-mold to areas requiring protection prior to grit blasting... a 3-5 millimeter thickness is recommended. After molding, cure at 250 Degrees F for at least 25 minutes. After curing, the material becomes a strong, abrasion-resistant mask. After grit blasting and spraying, Machbloc TM can be peeled back and removed leaving good line definition...eliminating costly grinding and polishing after spraying.

We also offer Praxairs PowerMask which is a liquid masking compound that is painted on with a brush. PowerMask is ideally suited for flame, arc, and plasma spray systems where high velocity spraying is not being used. In these low velocity applications, PowerMask is ideal because it is economical and all overspray is removed when PowerMask is peeled off of the substrate.

H.V.M.C. Masking Compound
HVMC is a unique two-part silicone putty that allows operators to mask holes, keyways, channels, and depressions. The compound resists all forms of grit blast and thermal spray. HVMC is also ideal for producing reusable plugs and molds. This compound bonds well to all GBI silicone coated glass tapes to provide a mask resistant to all forms of surface treatment including the most powerful forms of HVOF (High Velocity Oxy Fuel) spray systems. The HVMC Kits are typically sold in the following sizes: Small (0.5 Kg), Medium (1.0 Kg), and Large (2.0 Kg) - Larger kits are also available upon request.
Tapes
Available in 160-5S, 160-5S HT, 162-5S, 162-7S, 162-12S. These tapes are fabricated from a tightly woven high tensile glass cloth with a high temperature silicone pressure sensitive adhesive, on one or both sides.
Tightly woven high tensile glass cloth backing with a pressure-sensitive high temperature range silicone adhesive (-100°F to +500°F). The 160 Series is single-coated, the 162 Series is double-coated. Used for electrical insulation Class H.
High resistance to cut through and abrasion
- Silicone adhesive system for superior adhesion to metal and "face to back"
- Releases cleanly from metal surfaces
- The 162-5S, 162-7S YL and 162-12S have a pressure sensitive silicone adhesive applied to both sides of the carrier fabric and a heavy duty crepe paper liner
- 162-7S is designed for easier liner release and handling
- Masking for metalizing and plasma spray applications
- Under wrap for other tapes
